2025-26Video Call is an AI-powered feature that allows learners to practice real-life conversations in a low pressure environment. I led the design strategy that increased feature adoption from 26% to 33% in one quarter. I'm currently designing a new bilingual, tutor-like experience to make speaking more approachable for beginners.
2024
Intermediate English launched in 2024 as Duolingo's most advanced English course. However, the course had lower retention as many English learners underestimate their proficiency, and then drop off when content is too easy. I led design across three workstreams—refining placement accuracy, introducing new features and exercise types to deepen engagement, and partnering with Marketing on awareness campaigns in India, our largest English market. The work grew Intermediate English DAUs to 1.95M by the end of the quarter, a 52% increase.
2023
Side Quests are optional challenges on the side of the core learning path, that give learners more ways to review and spend gems (our in-app currency). I led this project from concept to launch.
2021-23
I co-designed Duolingo's first Family Plan, leading the complete invite and account management experience. As adoption grew, I partnered with Marketing to design a dedicated landing page that streamlined discovery and conversion. Family Plan became one of Duolingo's most popular subscription plans.
